Plywood Dot Hooks

The next instalment of my monthly favourite finds is over here now...

Each month I'll add my fave 3 x handcrafted products that I've either stumbled across, bought or received as a gift and you'll be able to click on the image or the link to shop directly from the maker yourself.

Helping continue to support small, local businesses, and make handmade the go to choice for gift giving and homewares shopping.

Special shout out this month to Katie from Girl and Grain.

After a 20-year career making TV commercials, Katie realised she had lost the love of what she was making.

And for a maker the love is everything!

It was time to find a new way to contribute to the world. She enrolled in a three-year furniture making course.

And remembers her first class – one woman among a sea of smelly teenage boys.   What was she thinking??  Every week, she kept turning up and pretty soon it all started to make sense.

Fast forward to now, and Katie has her own workshop in Brookvale, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches where she makes furniture for design-conscious clients who share her love of a modern, simple, minimalist aesthetic.

I've recently commissioned Katie to make a plywood, wall hung cabinet as well as some plywood dot hooks for my recently completed bedroom makeover (more on that later!).

And she and I are working on designs for a special desk and a coffee table too.

I love the smell of sawdust in Katie's workshop, as it reminds me of my childhood in my Dad's shed where he was always making and creating wooden toys &  furniture.
